Join us for a divine tasting tour as we introduce you to both the popular and lesser-known gastronomic treasures of Budapest. This Budapest food tour starts at the Central Market Hall, a city landmark that’s over one hundred years old. There, we taste some slices of salami and sausages, get acquainted with the history of the building, and hear a brief introduction on what is eaten and how it’s eaten in Hungary.
The hidden streets of downtown are next on the menu. We take a stroll and head toward one of our favourite little eateries to try freshwater fish. We also stop for a seasonal sweet treat – chocolate bonbons from an award-winning chocolate factory in winter or Budapest’s best ice cream in the summer.
Feeling thirsty yet? Your guide takes you to a Ruin Bar next for a refreshing spritzer and an education in Hungarian drinks. Our foodie adventure then takes us through the Jewish district, where we admire the largest and most beautiful synagogue in Europe and enjoy a tasting of local food as we learn about typical Jewish food and traditions.
From there, we’ll cross the World Heritage-listed Andrássy Avenue and make our way to one of our favourite local restaurants – tasting a mouth watering, world famous local dishe and a genuine Hungarian dessert. We’ll finish our Budapest food tour happily full of some of the best stories and food in town.
Inclusions: Local English-speaking guide, food tastings at five different locations, a glass of spritzer (or soft drink) and a bottle of mineral water.

Mrs. Risa K. from USA travelled on 09 Jun 2018:
our guide, Reka, was excellent
Ms. Lisa P. from Australia travelled on 13 May 2018:
I had a wonderful tour with zsuzsi. She was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and made everyone in the group feel welcome and included.
I particularly enjoyed walking around some of the prettier parts of the city – I would not have found these on my own.
All the foods we tried were excellent and it was nice to have a few stops to rest too.
The tour was at the top end of my budget – this would be my hesitation in doing a similar tour again
Ms. Linda S. from Australia travelled on 16 Apr 2018:
The Bites and Sights Tour was a highlight of our stay in Budapest. The tour really set the pace for the rest of our stay and gave us a local insight and understanding of the city that we never would have known with out this amazing tour our guide Reka was a local and even sent us local recipes from her grandmother after the tour!
Mr. Adam B. from Germany travelled on 25 Mar 2018:
Good time! It was just the two of us and one other couple, so we got extra food and our guide answered all of our questions!
Mr. CARL D. from India travelled on 21 Feb 2018:
The Beer Tour with Gergo on 13th Feb evening was Fantastic, he is very knowledgeable and soft spoken.
The Fine Wines & Ruins Bar tour on 15th with Reka was Marvelous. She is easy going, helpful & kind.
The Bites & Sites Tour with Emese on 16th afternoon was delicious. She walked us through the tour with calm & ease & was ready to adjust with our requirements.
Although we have both been in the travel business for 4 decades & to Budapest 4 times before, the discovery of Budapest with Urban Adventures was like discovering hidden Gems. Thanks to Eniko and her A Team.

Mr. Aquiles C. from USA travelled on 08 Feb 2018:
Monica was an excellent tour guide. There were only 4 of us on that cold November day but she was smiling, bubbly and very warm. She treated us like we were old friends just hanging out while proudly showing to us her beautiful city. I loved the fact that we went to places that were off the tourist trail and we did get to see some famous attractions as well. Doing a food tour is one way of getting to know a city at the same time experiencing a place’s food and culture. Highly recommended!
Mr. Michael N. from Australia travelled on 24 Dec 2017:
Very good guide and great to visit places I would not have found. Great food choices
Mrs. Jennifer V. from Canada travelled on 14 Nov 2017:
fantastic, delicious tour!
Ms. Jennifer K. from USA travelled on 01 Oct 2017:
The tour gave a pretty good introduction into Hungarian food. I especially liked tryingbthe different salami (horse meat!) because it is something I wouldn’t have ordered myself. The guide was very helpful and gave great information – thanks!
Ms. Meredith G. from USA travelled on 15 Sep 2017:
I loved everything about this tour. My guide Gergo was fantastic and maintained a relaxed pace, allowing plenty of time to enjoy the walk between stops, while generating thoughtful and insightful conversation about all aspects of life in Budapest/Hungary. It was a pleasure having the chance to talk about all topics from sports, to politics, art and history with Gergo who is very intelligent and well spoken. I also greatly enjoyed the variety of food and number of stops to enjoy different dishes along the way. The portion sizes were perfect, big enough to let you really taste each item but not too overwhelming so I didn’t feel too full too quickly. The choice of places we visited was fantastic as they all seemed quite local, many off the beaten path and very unique. I also enjoyed wandering in less touristy areas of the city. Gergo was very generous with his time and wonderful energy and this was an absolutely perfect tour. Thank you!
Ms. Clare T. from New Zealand travelled on 08 Sep 2017:
Being the only person on this tour, the overall experience seems quite long and intense. Would always be better with more people.
Mr. JOHN N. from USA travelled on 08 Sep 2017:
A culinary, cultural and historical immersion into Budapest. Gergo was an excellent guide in all respects. A most enjoyable, entertaining and memorable afternoon. This was our first UA tour; our positive experience left us craving more.
Ms. Elisabeth C. from USA travelled on 05 Sep 2017:
Monica was a truly outstanding guide to the tastes and different cultures and area of Budapest. She was friendly, very bright and gave us a wonderful variety of experiences on our tour. She is a GEM!
Mr. Patricia H. from USA travelled on 03 Aug 2017:
Monica was the best. I felt like I was seeing Budapest with a good and knowledgeable friend. It was so much fun. Imagine spending the day ina lovely city with a lovely person. Hard to top. I Would recommend this experience to everybody. The group was small. The places we saw were local and along the way we learned about Budapest large and small. I’m not a tour person, and can’t believe what I’ve been missing. Great experience
Ms. Anne-maree K. from Australia travelled on 24 Jul 2017:
Excellent well paced tour with many different food and drink options to sample. Only fault was that Fanni didn’t have up to date numbers for the tour, not her fault….something not communicated to her prior to event.
Ms. Judith H. from USA travelled on 09 Jul 2017:
Gergo was exceptional. He provided an environment where all group members interacted well with one another and with him. He is very passionate about his city and country, and this was evident (and appropriate, not in a boasting way, at all)
Ms. Kim H. from Australia travelled on 03 Jun 2017:
An excellent experience, great guide (Szusi). I liked the small group, the variety of experiences and places visited. It was a good snapshot of Budapest. I have recommended this tour to others visiting Budapest, along with the Ruin bars tour.
Mr. Alistair S. from United Kingdom travelled on 08 Apr 2017:
Excellent knowledge and great fun
Mr. Noel B. from North Ireland travelled on 01 Mar 2017:

Agnes was a very pleasant and knowledgable tour guide! We really enjoyed this tour! Plenty of delicious, authentic Hungarian food.

I really enjoyed Agnes. I appreciated her passion for Budapest and its food that she was more than excited to share with us. I also appreciated the diversity in places that we attended – from modern/innovative (ie. Halkakas) to traditional (goulash).

Zsuzsi was a wonderful guide who gave us the highlight adventure while we were in Budapest.
Mr. babette t. from USA travelled on 22 Oct 2016:
This was an amazing tour. The food was only a small part of the tour. Agnes’ knowledge and ability to share her culture and personal life experiences was the most rewarding part of this tour. She is a wealth of information and shared it with us in such an interesting and enjoyable way. I loved this tour and it was a highlight of my time in Budapest.
Ms. Sarah M. from Australia travelled on 05 Oct 2016:
Agnes was an excellent guide.
Mrs. Katy T. from United Kingdom travelled on 27 Aug 2016:
If you are interested in food and architecture this is an excellent tour. Agnes was very enthusiastic and knowledgable about Budapest and I felt I learned so much more than if I had just walked around on my own. The choice of food we ate was fantastic, especially the goulash soup and strudels at the end. A wonderful day.
Ms. Kay P. from New Zealand travelled on 22 Jun 2016:
Agnes was fantastic. She was enthusiastic, informative and interesting. She provided a real insight into Hungarian life both now and under the communist regime. She also took us to some great bars and restaurants we would never found on our own. I would really encourage visitors to Budapest to take this tour.
Ms. Audrey T. from Canada travelled on 14 May 2016:
The tour ran longer than expected – more than 4 hours long. Part of the reason understandably, was we were unexpectedly caught up in a sudden thunderstorm and had to wait it out. I think it would have helped if the guide stated at the beginning what to expect in terms of time.
At times, there was a long wait between food, I would have been more prepared if I had known this beforehand. Also our guide (Agnes Zoka)’s voice didn’t really project well, resulting in some of the group missing out on what was being said. She would talk as she walked, leading to the travellers walking behind to miss out.
However Agnes’ enthusiasm and knowledge was obvious, and in the end it was a satisfying experience. The food was good, and she gave a great insight into the different areas of Budapest.
Mr. David M. from Australia travelled on 13 May 2016:
A passionate and friendly guide, happy to share her knowledge of all things Hungarian.
Mrs. Miriam S. from USA travelled on 18 Apr 2016:
Agnes was a great guide! I felt we learned so much not just about food, but about Hungarian history, culture and social interactions. She was terrific and we had a fun time.
Mr. Charles B. from USA travelled on 06 Jan 2016:
Agnes was wonderful. She was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Budapest, the culture, the food and showed us some great restaurants. She even offered to send us her goulash recipe! Only wish we had taken the tour earlier in our visit.
Ms. Este O. from South Africa travelled on 07 Oct 2015:
The sights and bites tour with Fanni was excellent. She showed us all the hidden gems in Budapest and we learnt about the culture and history in between tasting the delicious food. Highlights included the chocolate bon bons, the 3 kinds of fish and the goulash in a traditional restaurant. Highly recommend to fully experience everything that Budapest has to offer.
Mrs. Judith H. from USA travelled on 16 Jun 2015:
Olivia is an excellent tour guide and provided insight into the current and past political climate in Hungary. She took us to many little eateries and shops beyond the typical tourist destination that enhanced our tour experience.
Mr. Andrew C. from United Kingdom travelled on 01 Apr 2015:
Agnes was a great guide and gave us all the Budapest information we needed. She was also good fun and a very nice lady.
Mr. Tim T. from USA travelled on 01 Dec 2014:
Perfect way to see the city. great choice of venues and our guide was absolutely excellent
Ms. Linda Y. from Saudi Arabia travelled on 22 Oct 2014:
This is the second urban adventure I have done and again, I had a fantastic time. Fanne was a great guide showing me all the good food that Budapest had to offer. This is definitely not the last one for me. I did this food tour just prior to my Intrepid tour starting and I mentioned this to all the members in my group.
Ms. Alyssa S. from Australia travelled on 02 Sep 2014:
Really enjoyed the food component of this tour. Alyssa had an excellent knowledge and made the tour very interesting. I particularly enjoyed the restaurant with the goulash and where they made the strudel.
Mrs. Susanna M. from travelled on 12 Aug 2014:
Palma was a great guide with lots of fascinating knowledge about the history, architecture and culture of Budapest. We re-visited many of the bars and restaurants and enjoyed her recommendations. We like the intimate nature of the tour helping us orientate ourselves to the city on arrival, and visiting places off the main tourist trail that locals use.
Ms. Penelope K. from Australia travelled on 13 Jul 2014:
Palma was wonderful, professional & friendly. The small group was great and she went over time without us realising as we were having such a good time
Ms. Sarah W. from Australia travelled on 08 Jun 2014:
Andrea was fantastic – she gave us so much information – she recommended some excellent restaurants and things to do – I’m so glad we did this tour on our first day. We covered so much in our 3 hours – we tasted heaps of yummy and interesting food – Andrea brought Budapest to life for us!
Mr. Anthony C. from Australia travelled on 04 Jun 2014:
Livia, was a superb guide. high energy and charming. Her choices of venues and the food gave us a unique insight into Budapest. An excellent experience.
Ms. Cynthia B. from USA travelled on 19 May 2014:
I loved the Budapest tour. Not my first, but the best.
Mr. David S. from USA travelled on 18 Apr 2014:
Eniko was warm and enthusiastic from our initial call until the very end of the trip. The tour itself was well planned and it was lovely to eat a little, walk a little, nosh a little, walk a little, etc. The types of foods were extremely varied and it is clear that she really knows a lot about the history of Budapest and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with us.
After the tour, Eniko took her own time to answer a few of our additional questions and help us plan some activities for the rest of our trip. It was an excellent experience and really enhanced our trip. We were left with a fantastic impression of the city and Eniko truly is an excellent ambassador of the Urban Adventures brand. Highly recommended.
Ms. Tanya O. from New Zealand travelled on 01 Jul 2013:
What a lovely afternoon! We had a great time tasting a variety of food and drink – all of it delicious – and learning a bit more about Budapest. We left the tour satisfied with full bellies…definitely recommended!
